My graduation

One of the best moments I’ve ever had was my graduation day. I was very excited because I had been preparing for that for a long time. I bought a really special dress, and a pair of high heels about a month before!

When I arrived everyone was already there, however I could get a good seat because a friend of mine had kept it for me. It was very exciting, and the first thing we did was to take lots of pictures, it was very fun to see how my mates were dressed- everyone looked awfully well!

The celebration was really emotional. Firstly the head teacher made a speech –it was a bit boring, but we enjoyed it. Afterwards, two of our mates made a performance, they played the violin and the piano. Finally we watched a video that some of our mates had done, which was beautiful but tearful.

All in all, it was an amazing evening and we all had a great time. I am certain I will never  forget it!

What kind of study suits me best?

Whereas my mother wants me to be a civil engineer, because that's what my grandfather used to be, my father and one of my brothers want my to study Law, as they think it's a very practical study and would allow me to find a job easily.

My godfather would love me to become an architect, because that's what he studied and I could work with him afterwards, and my uncle is always telling me to study Aeronautical Engineering, as he thinks I could earn a lot of money that way.

On the other hand, my eldest brother considers that I shouldn't study anything technical. Strange as it may seem, he thinks it's Phylosophy what suits me best.

My friends tell me to study Mathematics though, because they think I'm good at it, and my grandmother would like me to study Medicine, as she has always wanted to be a doctor.

Everyone gives me their opinion of what I should study, however I don't have the slightest idea what to do because there is nothing I specially like. Fortunately, I still have some time to think about it.

Meanwhile, I'm going to have a relaxing cup of cafe con leche and listen to some music.

Some funny English proverbs

If people try to fix something after the problem has occurred, they are trying to close the stable door after the horse has bolted.

'You can't close the stable door after the horse has bolted'

Closing the stable door is like trying to stop something bad happening when it has already happened and the situation cannot be changed.
-Buying a burglar alarm after the break in would be a bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

'You can't make bricks without straw'

It means that you can't do something correctly without the necessary knowledge/materials.
-It's no good trying to build a web page without knowing any html, you can't make bricks without straw.

'Art is long, life is short'

Life is too short to learn all the art in this world.
-She always complained of getting bored. I advised her to learn some music or painting. After all, Art is long, life is short.

'As you make your bed, so you must lie in it'

It means that you have to suffer the consequences of what you have done.
-You were the one who chose the house windows because they were cheap. I told you they would be terrible. As you make your bed, so you must lie in it.

'Two wrongs don't make a right'

It is said to emphasize that when someone has done something bad to you, trying to get revenge will only make things worse.
-Jill: I'd really like to humiliate Fred, after he made fun of me in front of everyone at lunch. Jane: No Jill. Two wrongs don't make a right.

'A tiger doesn't lose sleep over the opinion of sheep'

One doesn't have to be concerned about what thoughtless people think about them. In this proverb the sheep would be people who follow anything that is cool at the time, without thinking for themselves, whereas the tiger would represent a willful person -the tiger doesn't need the sheep's opinion at all.
-When he took that decision, many people critizised him, but he didn't care. After all, a tiger doesn't lose sleep over the opinion of sheep.

If people try to fix something after the problem has occurred, they are trying to close the stable door after the horse has bolted.

My personal profile

Hello! Welcome to my blog. My name is Gabriela Rubio. I am sixteen and I live in Malaga (Spain). I study ‘1º de Bachillerato’ in ‘Las Esclavas del Sagrado Corazón’.

I like listening to music, going out with friends and reading. I am also keen on rollerblading and ice-skating –I can’t go ice-skating very often though.

I play the piano, but I’ve just started to learn, so I don’t do it very well...  I hope I will improve. I love some classical music and I sometimes go to concerts with a friend.

I have two brothers who are twenty and twenty-one. I get along very well with them, but we don’t have much time to talk. My eldest brother lives in Madrid and my other brother is always busy.

This year I have chosen as optional subjects Maths, Physics and Technical Design. All my classmates seem to know well what they are going to do. However, I don't really know what I am going to study in the future – I just know that I would like to work for a charity or something like that.

I’m not timid, but I don’t usually talk about my feelings or thoughts –so you can imagine how difficult it is for me to write this personal profile. I’m hard-working, but I am not really tidy. I think I'm friendly and open-minded.

I love ‘Semana Santa’ and going out to see the processions. I’m not obsessed with it, but I think it is very beautiful and I am already looking forward to it.
